Henry E. Rohlsen Airport (STX) is St. Croix’s only commercial airport, on the south side of the island, roughly central. Everything arrives and leaves from here.

Arriving

For U.S. citizens flying from the mainland this is a domestic arrival — no immigration, no customs on the way in. You will have needed REAL ID–compliant photo identification to board; see do you need a passport for St. Croix.

The terminal is small. Bags come out, you walk to the rental counters, you leave.

Departing — allow more time

This is the direction that surprises people. Leaving the U.S. Virgin Islands for the mainland means:

• U.S. Customs and Border Protection screening
• An agricultural inspection — do not pack fresh fruit or plants
• Standard TSA security

It is a small airport and it can back up. Give yourself more time than you would for a normal domestic departure, particularly on a day when several flights leave close together.

Rental cars

Counters are at the airport. Reserve ahead, especially December through April — the fleet on a small island is finite and high season does sell out.
